Over 2,000 Bhutanese refugees came to settle in Houston since 2008, and more are coming almost daily. They are mostly Hindus, Muslims, and Buddhists, with few Christians. Upon arrival, each family faces language and cultural barriers and many problems associated with immigration, such as jobs, schools, English-learning, citizenship classes, etc. These difficulties resulted in making their own community by clustering together in 4 or 5 apartment complexes. In our targeted apartment complex of 540 units, there are over 150 Bhutanese families along with many other refugee people groups such as Burmese, Somalian, etc.
